The TAPPI-PIMA Student Summit is an annual event designed to provide students interested in pulp, paper, and allied industries direct interaction with industry leaders and valuable information about employment and career development within the industry. The Student Summit is an excellent venue for undergraduate and graduate students to learn about opportunities after graduation as well as some of the key challenges and opportunities existing in the industry today.
DEBORAH ANN McNUTT MEMORIAL STUDENT SUMMIT SCHOLARSHIPS
Beginning with the January 2007 TAPPI/PIMA Student Summit, Hercules will contribute $2000 per year for the next five years to fund the travel costs for four students ($500 each) who attend the Student Summit.
The purpose of this scholarship is to honor the memory of Deborah Ann McNutt and to encourage participation in PIMA/TAPPI activities and attendance at the PIMA/TAPPI Student Summit.
Recipients must be:
1. Enrolled in a paper industry related academic discipline at an accredited university
2. In good academic standing as a college junior or higher
3. Currently active in PIMA or TAPPI and registered to attend the Student Summit
Applications must include:
1. Copy of student's transcript showing their current cumulative GPA
2. A one page essay on a few key issues facing the paper industry and how participating in student PIMA and/or TAPPI programs, such as the Student Summit, may be able to help each applicant better understand and help address these issues as they move out into the industry
3. A reference letter from the student's academic advisor that expresses in a simple way the student's potential to contribute to a career in the paper industry
A selection committee will review applicants and select the annual recipients. Recipients will be notifed by January 5, 2007. The award and checks will be presented to the recipients by Jim McNutt (CPBIS) and Chet Cross (Hercules) at the Student Summit Sunday evening dinner.
Note - No relative of current TAPPI or PIMA Board Members, TAPPI Foundation Trustees, Hercules employees, members of the Selection Committee, or TAPPI or PIMA staff are eligible to receive these awards.
This year's summit program will focus on leadership. Additional presentations will address what industry recruiters are looking for, networking, interviewing etiquette, dressing and dining in the business setting, and transitioning from school to work. The summit will conclude with facility tours at Jacobs Applied Technology Plant and the MeadWestvaco paper mill.
Student Chapter officers, members, and faculty advisors are encouraged to attend this exciting event.
The TAPPI-PIMA Student Summit is funded through financial donations provided by corporate sponsors, TAPPI Local Sections and divisions, and others. Please consider helping TAPPI and PIMA continue to offer this great event with your financial support.
