This compilation contains 87 test methods, specifications, practices and guides for evaluation and selection of packaging materials and complete packages, based on their physical properties and performance, and in their proper application. About 40% of the standards are new or revised from the previous edition. As they are applied to packaging, the standards cover wood, fiberboard, and other paper products; plastics, glass, metals, rubber, and composite structure in the form of containers, cushioning, wrapping, barriers, and closures; and sealing, utilizing reinforcing, and handling aids. Definitions of terms related to the complete packaging and distribution environment are also provided. This compilation is intended as a technical resource for students in universities that offer a packaging curriculum, for packaging engineers and designers of packaging for industry and government, and for manufacturers of packaging materials and processes.
