Ohio TAPPI and Appleton Papers are hosting this three-day Project Management workshop on Project Initiation & Scoping. Are the right projects being started? Are they completing on time and on schedule? Do they support the strategic goals of the corporation? A recent study revealed that over 50% or all projects end in total failure and less than 7% of all projects meet the triple constraint claims set when the project was given final approval. Too many projects are started without really knowing what the final results should be - “ready-shoot-aim” principle.
This workshop studies the processes involved with initiating and scoping a project following the Project Management Institute (PMI) guidelines. The PMI guidelines are the most widely used project management tools and techniques in the world.
Did you know there are twenty-three processes and hundreds of tasks required to take a project from the back of napkin to approval by the board of directors? Some of these include the Chart Document, work breakdown schedule, cost estimate, and risk management plan.
Late project delivery, higher project costs, and missed scopes all have the same results – lower return on investment for the project (the stockholders don’t like this), missed opportunities for the business (the competition does like this), and damaged reputations (not career enhancing).
