Held every two years, the TAPPI Advanced Coating Fundamentals Symposium (ACFS) is the preeminent symposium for paper coating fundamentals and leading edge research relating to paper surface treatment, converting and printing operations. ACFS brings together the world’s most knowledgeable paper coating experts including university researchers, product development and technical service professionals from the commercial sector, and printing and graphic arts specialists.
In 2012, ACFS will be co-located with the 16th International Coating Science and Technology Symposium (ICSTS) providing both attendees and presenters with expanded learning and networking opportunities. ICSTS usually includes over 70 presentations from research universities and companies such as 3M, General Motors, Imerys, Boston Scientific, Solarmer, Avery Dennison and the USDA. Your TAPPI registration will allow access to any of the ISCST presentations, and will include full printed proceedings of the TAPPI program and the traditional Advanced Coating Fundamentals Dinner.
If your scientific interests lie in the fields of coatings (barrier, bioactive, fundamentals), converting, ink structures / interactions with coatings, then the TAPPI Advanced Coating Symposium is for you.

Author Guidelines
Your paper and presentation are subject to peer review and must comply with TAPPI antitrust and commercialism guidelines. The guidelines are available in the TAPPI Author/Speaker Kit. Once approved, your materials will also be included in the Conference proceedings, with your permission. We request that you upload the files to the TAPPI Speaker Management System.

Instructions for Uploading Manuscripts and Presentations
- Go to speakermanagement.tappi.org
- Login using your TAPPI login and ID (1) If you are not sure if you have one, search using (2). To create a login use (3).
- Select “My Presentations”
- You will see your submissions listed in the “Your Submissions” table toward the bottom of the page. It will probably be ‘Locked for Review’. This will not prevent you from uploading files.
- Click on the light blue square with the green arrow (Upload Manager Button) located in the “Upld Mgr” column for the submission you wish to upload a document.
- The upload box will appear. Click the (1) Browse button and locate the file to be uploaded. Then choose (2) the type of document to be uploaded (e.g. Extended Abstract, Biography, Manuscript or PowerPoint). Finally, click (3) Upload . A message that the file was uploaded successfully should appear.
- If there is an error in uploading the file:
- Make sure the file is in one of the formats listed below the upload button. It will accept the newest versions of Microsoft software.
- Make sure the file you are uploading is not open on your computer. If it is, close the file and try to upload it again.
