Objective:
This course will be targeted at paper coating professionals who are new to the industry as well as those who have some experience in the business but are now in need of understanding of the basics of the technology. This course should appeal to commercial people desiring a technical base, to people with experience in other industries but new to the paper industry, to young people either fresh out of college or new to coating, and to people who’ve spent their previous years in other parts of the paper industry.

Learning Objectives:
A person taking this course should leave with the following basic understandings:

  1. Raw materials used in the preparation of paper coatings.
  2. Coating formulation by end-use requirements.
  3. Testing of paper coatings and coated paper. Paper coating rheological properties.
  4. Preparation of coatings with a mill or converting operation
  5. Paper coating machinery; its operation and which application methods best serve which end uses.
  6. Opportunity to interact with experts in paper and paperboard coatings from around the world with your specific questions
  7. Opportunity to discuss examples of real world situations and how they were resolved

Instructors
The course will be taught by experienced TAPPI coating experts from both the supplier and manufacturing backgrounds. Course Chairs include: Femi Kotoye, Styron LLC, Gordon Bugg, EKA Chemicals, and Steve Ottone, Mallard Creek Polymers. You won’t find a better faculty for a practical introduction to paper coating!
