Benefits No Mystery to this Member

TAPPI member William S. “Bill” Fuller has had a long and storied career in the Pulp and Paper industry, serving in a variety of scientific and safety roles for 35 years with Weyerhauser Company, and now as an independent consultant. A sleuth at heart (he describes himself as a CSI “addict”), he says he joined TAPPI way back in 1966 with the idea he could easily access, and open doors to, a wide array of global connections that otherwise would not have been possible in his field of wood technology and pulp and paper science.

Now an Honorary Lifetime Member of TAPPI, Bill notes that a grad school advisor urged him to join and become an active, engaged member while still in school. That strong recommendation has been one bit of advice Bill has been grateful for ever since. Through the years he has enthusiastically served on a number of committees, including the Pulp Manufacture Division, the Research Division and the Pacific Local Section. He has been a member of the TAPPI JOURNAL Editorial Board since 1980, and was a member of the TAPPI Board of Directors from1996-1998. Bill also authored several scientific and academic articles which have appeared in TAPPI JOURNAL, TAPPI PRESS and academic publications, and has been honored with numerous awards over the years.

Bill often points to the international contact network he amassed during his long association with TAPPI as one of the main sources of his career success. A scientist at heart, he is proud of the many on-the-job “mysteries” he solved during his career by tapping into his global connections. “Thanks to that network, whenever someone asks me who they should talk to about a technology or a problem, I can almost always direct them to a person or organization to help, or provide direction.”
