VOICE OF CUSTOMER SPEAKS AT 2007 TAPPI PAPERMAKERS & PIMA INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE 2007 TAPPI Papermakers & PIMA International Leadership Conference Partners Collaborating for Progress March 11-15, 2007 Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Waterfront Jacksonville, Florida, USA The Voice of the Customer panel session at the 2007 TAPPI Papermakers & PIMA International Leadership Conference will focus on industry customers' primary objectives and concerns in their sourcing of paper. The panel session will take place on Monday, March 12, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Conference attendees will have the opportunity to hear directly from customers about their pressing needs and primary considerations. Panelists include representatives from printing, converting, and publishing operations. Attendees will also have the opportunity to pose questions and explore how to improve their performance in the vital supply chain. Submit papers until Feb. 23rd for 8th Research Forum on Recycling Those interested in submitting technical presentations for consideration for the 2007 8th Research Forum on Recycling may complete a submission online at www.tappi.org/07RECYCLE. ENERGY ISSUES ARE FOCUS OF 2007 ICRC International Chemical Recovery Conference 29 May - 1 June, 2007 Quebec, Canada Leading experts in the field of chemical recovery will present the latest in equipment, process developments and new technology at the 2007 International Chemical Recovery Conference. Full conference program available online; to learn more, or to register, visit www.paptac.ca. Doug Reeve receives John S. Bates Medal Dr. Douglas W. Reeve has been awarded the John S. Bates Memorial Gold Medal from the Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada (PAPTAC.) This prestigious award is conferred in recognition of long-term contributions to the science and technology of the pulp and paper industry. Reeve is Professor and Chair in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry, and was Founding Director of the Pulp & Paper Centre at the University of Toronto. His work has had a profound effect on the science and technology of the pulp and paper industry, especially in the areas of pulp bleaching and chemical recovery. He is credited with many major technological contributions such as the early development of closed cycle technology for bleached kraft pulp mills. He is the author or co-author of over 100 publications, and holds title as inventor or co-inventor of 18 patents. Reeve joined TAPPI in1973 and has been a vital part of TAPPI's Pulping Division and its corresponding events. He has served as Program Chairman and/or Conference Chairman at events including TAPPI's International Pulp Bleaching Conference, International Chemical Recovery Conference, Kraft Recovery Operations Short Course, and Bleach Plant Operations Short Course. He is the originator of the last three events. In 1988, Reeve was named a TAPPI Fellow; he served on TAPPI's Board of Directors from 2000-2003. SARG Meeting to approve Test Methods is open to all The Standards Advisory Review Group (SARG) will meet on Monday, March 12, 2007, at 10:00 am Eastern time, at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront in Jacksonville, FL (the site of the TAPPI Papermakers & PIMA International Leadership Conference). This is the group responsible for making final approvals of new or revised TAPPI Test Methods. The agenda and the drafts that are up for approval may be viewed online . The meeting is open to anyone to attend in person or by conference call. If you would like to attend by conference call, please contact the Standards Department at TAPPI (standards@tappi.org or +1-770-209-7276) no later than March 5, 2007, to obtain the dial-in number. Notice of TAPPI Test Methods in Ballot The TAPPI Test Method regulations require public review of methods that are up for ballot. Normally this is available to TAPPI members on the web site, but this function is temporarily unavailable due to technical problems with the transition to the new TAPPI web site. This notice shall serve as the public notice of these reviews. Listed below are TAPPI test methods that have recently gone out for ballot to the corresponding Standard-Specific Interest Group (SSIG). The date in parentheses is the closing date for voting. If you would like to review and comment on any draft and are not a member of the corresponding SSIG, you may request a copy of the draft being balloted by writing to standards@tappi.org.
