The Robert C. Williams American Museum of Papermaking is
located at the Institute of Paper Science and Technology
(IPST) in Atlanta. Hours of operation are Monday through
Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Guided tours, including all
tour groups, must be scheduled in advance. Guided tours
introduce the ancient craft of papermaking from 4,000 BC
to the advanced technology of today. The charge for a guided
tour is $1.50 per person. Also offers a hands-on papermaking
workshop for children and adults in which participants make
their own sheets of paper out of recycled blue jeans, cotton
and banana leaves. The papermaking workshop is available
on Friday mornings, and costs $2.50 per person. Also includes
a guided tour of the museum. Advanced reservations are required
for all tours. Tours are booked on a first-come, first-served
basis.

Comments:
Hightower Education Forest is a working forest that demonstrates
forest management practices. It is located in the North
Georgia mountains, and is an outdoor learning facility where
students can participate in natural resource studies in
a managed forest environment. It features a Talking Tree
Trail, picnic facilities, hands-on programs on forest growth
and management, including trees, soil, water and wildlife.
It also offers a forest diorama exhibit, outdoor classrooms,
ponds, and state curriculum correlation. Hours are Monday
- Friday from 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Comments:
The Howard E. Bennett Forestry Museum is located southeast
of Macon and chronicles the history of the forest industry
in Georgia. It offers visitors an educational perspective
on many facets of forestry. It contains an arboretum of
native and naturalized trees on a nature walk to an original
fire tower. Other outdoor exhibits include an early 1900s
turpentine still, a steam-powered sawmill, and equipment
used in the early days of forestry. The museum is in a log
cabin and features displays focusing on forestry activities,
such as fire fighting, forest management, tree nurseries,
and wood products. The museum is open Monday through Friday,
8:30am - 4:00pm. The tour is self-guided, with guides available
for groups making advance reservations.

For Students and Teachers: (grades 5-12)
FREE - School Field Trips- These field trips consist of
a tour of the Education Center including a chance to learn
about many different species of trees grown in Georgia and
how their wood is used around the world. Everyone participates
in a discussion of the history of forestry in Georgia as
well as several Project Learning Tree activities. A tour
through the Georgia Forests Forever Mobile Classroom will
be included with the
field trip. These field trips are held during National
Forest Products Week October 16 - 22, 2005 and Earth Week
April 24 - 28, 2006 as National Arbor Day is April 28, 2006.

paper industry. Offers tours to school-aged children and
the general public. Tour covers mining and processing of
kaolin. Participates in Adopt-A-School, Heart Association
Walk-A-Thon, and an anti-litter campaign.
