The Idaho Department of Lands provides environmental education
programs to schools. It does not offer tours on a regular
basis, only in conjunction with its educational programs
and workshops. Provides educational programs for private
forest owners, and also participates in Arbor Day and the
Idaho State Forestry Contest.

Comments:
Offers sawmill, paperboard mill and tissue mill tours by
appointment only. Must be 10 years and older. Company is
a sawmill, pulp and paper mill, and consumer products manufacturing
facility. There are two tours per day, the first starting
at 8:30am and the second at 1:30pm. Tours last about three
hours, and involve a lot of walking and stair climbing.
No open-toed shoes allowed. Special tours for customers
or university groups are also arranged with technical staff
as needed. Please note that almost all of the 5th grade
classes within 35 miles visit the mill in the spring, or
about 30 bus loads. Also has a group called FOREST (Friends
of Resource Education Supporting Timber) which consists
of employees, spouses, and interested community members
who go into classrooms for papermaking and other presentations.
Potlatch also does specialized classroom visits to Lewis-Clark
State College, the University of Idaho and Washington State
University. Topics range from forest management to papermaking
to environmental issues and communications. Also offers
woods tours only to employees and a guest and local educators.
Participates in county fairs, career fairs, Arbor Day/Earth
Day with local schools as requested.
