Tours of the mill are available for ages 10 and above. Prefers
junior high and above for tours. Offers in-school papermaking
programs; talks and presentations on recycling and the environment;
engineering and technical-related presentations on a limited
basis. Participates in career day presentations, Earth Day
activities, conservation district summer camps, business
exposition sponsored by local economic development organization.

Comments:
Historic RittenhouseTown is the site of America's first
paper mill in 1690, and is designated a National Historic
Landmark. Site is located on 30 acres in Philadelphia's
Fairmont Park. Comprised of seven restored 18th and 19th
century colonial buildings. RittenhouseTown communicates
a vivid picture of the early immigrants' customs, crafts,
food and dress, and religious heritage by sponsoring programs
and workshops in the hand papermaking and printing arts.
Offers interpretive tours, exhibits, and educational videos
relating to American history and paper. Group tours (10
or more) which include the site's visitor center, one of
the historic properties and a demonstration or an opportunity
to make paper are offered on weekdays with advance reservations.
Summer workshops on papermaking are also conducted. Also
participates in Keep America Beautiful and scouts.

Minimum age is 8th grade. Tours last two hours and are offered
Monday - Thursday from 8:30am - 3:00pm. Needs six weeks'
notice for scheduling. No tours from June - August. Offers
timberlands/tree farm tours on a request-only basis. Also
makes presentations on papermaking, recycling and/or forestry
to schools and community groups. Participates in Arbor Day,
Earth Day, scouting events and other community outreach
activities.
