SAPPI (South African Pulp & Paper Industries) was established in 1936. The company’s holdings in South Africa include seven pulp and paper mills: Saiccor, Stanger, Ngodwana, Enstra, Tugela, Adamas, and Cape Kraft. Their combined production capacity is more than 1.5 million metric tons of pulp and more than 1.1 million metric tons of paper. Sappi also owns saw mills, mining timber mills, and particle board plants in South Africa, as well as major mills in the United States, Great Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. As of last year, the operations were divided into two main divisions---fine paper and forest products.
