Daio Paper Poised to Acquire Nisshinbo’s Tissue Business (2/14/2017)

According to a report this week by the Nikkei Asian Review (NAR), Daio Paper, Japan, reportedly will pay some 20 billion yen ($178 million) for Japan-based Nisshinbo Holdings' paper business, including three mills in Japan. A final decision could come as early as this week, with the deal possibly closing by the end of March, NAR added.

Lee & Man Starts up Four Tissue Lines within Three Months (1/31/2017)

Four Valmet (Finland) supplied tissue lines have been successfully started up at Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing's Chongqing mill in China, within three months. The new lines, designed for production of high quality tissue products with low energy consumption, were all producing sellable paper from the start.

Ontex Starts up New Incontinence Products Plant in France (12/12/2016)

Ontex Group, Belgium, this past week officially opened its new incontinence products production site in Dourges, France. The new site will allow Ontex to optimize production processes, service its French and international customers better, and improve the working conditions of its staff. The project involves an investment of EUR 45 million.

Sofidel Presents Suppliers Sustainability Awards (12/01/2016)

This past week, at the premises of the ex Cavallerizza in Lucca, Italy, the names of the winning companies were announced in the first edition of the Suppliers Sustainability Award from Italy-based Sofidel, a global hygienic and household tissue manufacturer known in Italy for the Regina brand in particular. More than 300 suppliers to the Group—from Italy and abroad—took part in the initiative and were assessed according to a tool, TenP, built around the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact.

Guangdong Shaoneng Orders 26,000 MTPY Tissue Machine from A.Celli (2/01/2017)

In the fourth quarter of 2016, GuangDong ShaoNeng Group Co., Shanghai, China, for the first time, ordered a tissue machine line from A.Celli Paper, Italy. The scope of supply included a stock preparation system, electrical and drive system, DCS & QCS, accessory equipment, and the tissue machine itself, in a 2,850-mm format and operation speed up to 1,600 m/min. Production capacity is up to 26,000 metric tpy.

SCA to Acquire BSN Medical (12/22/2016

SCA, Sweden, has agreed to acquire BSN medical, Luxembourg, a leading medical solutions company, from the private equity group EQT. BSN medical develops, manufactures, markets and sells products within wound care, compression therapy, and orthopedics. The purchase price amounts to EUR 2,740 million on a debt- and cash-free basis. The completion of the transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals. Closing is expected to take place during the second quarter 2017.

The Bretting interfolder, named “VARiUM,” is the first of its kind in North America and the patent pending technology allows for variable cutoff lengths and folded panel widths.

Papyrus Completes Acquisition of Procurator (2/20/2017)

Papyrus AB, Sweden, has completed its previously announced acquisition of 100% of the shares in Procurator AB, Sweden. The transaction was completed after approval of the Swedish Competition Authority. At the same time, RoosGruppen AB, Sweden, has become a shareholder in Papyrus, together with private equity groups Altor Fund II and Triton Fund II. The purchase price has not been disclosed.

Velvet Care, Poland, is investing PLN 160 million (EUR 37 million) to build new production capacity at its tissue mill in Klucze, Poland. The company reportedly will purchase a new tissue machine that will raise its output capacity by about 70,000 metric tpy.

IPUSA Choses New Cellwood Pulper System for Tissue Mill in Uruguay (12/19/2016)

Tissue producer IPUSA, Uruguay, and Cellwood Machinery, Sweden, have signed an agreement for installation of a Cellwood Grubbens high consistency pulper type HCP and a Grubbens reject separator type GRS at IPUSA’s tissue mill in Canelones, Uruguay. This pulping system will allow for increased usage of wastepaper and improve the flexibility in the IPUSA process.

First Quality Gets Financial Help for Tissue Expansion at Lock Haven Mill (1/11/2017)

First Quality Tissue, Great Neck, N.Y., USA, a manufacturer of ultra-premium towel and tissue products, will expand its operations in Lock Haven, Pa., creating 184 new jobs.  First Quality Enterprises will expand operations at First Quality Tissue by constructing a new plant near its existing facility at 904 Woods Ave., and purchase machinery and equipment to accommodate a new tissue line.
