Mercer International to Acquire Biomass, Sawmill Assets in Germany (2/23/2017)

Mercer International Inc., Germany, this week agreed to acquire substantially all of the assets of one of Germany’s largest sawmills and a biomass power plant, near Friesau, Germany, for approximately $55.1 million plus defined working capital of approximately $9.0 million.

Quebec Government, Cascades Invest $11.3 Million in Two Energy Efficiency Projects (2/13/2017)

With two major projects at its Cabano plant supported by the Quebec government, Cascades, Kingsey Falls, Que., Canada, will significantly decrease its heavy-fuel oil consumption. These investments will result in an annual reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) equivalent to taking 4,000 light duty vehicles off the road.

AkzoNobel Cuts CO2 by 100,000 Tons with New Steam-from-Biomass Plant (2/13/2017)

Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs Henk Kamp, Eneco, and Groningen Seaports this week opened a facility that will supply steam from biomass to the chemical park at Delfzijl in the Netherlands, primarily for AkzoNobel's Specialty Chemicals site.

KPA Unicon to Deliver Biomass-Fired Steam Plant to Metsä Tissue Mill (2/16/2017)

Finland-based Metsä Tissue AB and KPA Unicon Oy have signed a contract for the delivery of Biograte 8 MWth steam boiler plant to Metsä Tissue Nyboholm, Sweden. The plant uses as a fuel biosludge in addition to wood chips, bark, and sawdust, and it produces steam for the paper mill machinery. The new plant enables efficient combustion of process residues, such as biosludge, generating steam for the mill.
