Parenco Starts up Voith Converted PM 2 from Newsprint to Packaging Grades (9/26/2016)

Parenco’s rebuilt PM 2 at its Renkum, Netherlands, mill was successfully started up just 14 months after contract signing with Voith (Germany).. After a short optimization phase, the customer signed the official take-over document. The rebuild/conversion from newsprint to packaging paper increases the mill's capacity by approximately 385,000 metric tpy.

Sonoco-Alcore to Increase Paperboard Prices across Europe (9/20/2016)

Sonoco-Alcore S.a.r.l. this week announced it will raise prices by EUR 40 per metric ton on all recycled paperboard grades sold in the company’s Nordic, Central European, and Greek regions. The price change is effective with shipments on or after Oct. 17, 2016.

U.S. Containerboard Output Edges up in August (9/19/2016)

U.S. containerboard production was 0.2% higher in August 2016 compared with August 2015. The m/m average daily production was 2% higher compared with July 2016, according to the AF&PA (Washington, D.C., USA) August 2016 U.S. Containerboard Statistics Report issued this past week.

Pregis Acquires U.K.-Based Easypack (9/19/2016

Pregis, Deerfield, Ill., USA, has acquired Easypack, Hertfordshire, U.K., a paper-based protective packaging company, for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition will enable Pregis to expand its North American product portfolio to include a complete line of paper void fill, cushioning, and block/brace solutions.

KapStone Announces Investment in California Converting Assets (9/12/2016)

KapStone, Northbrook, Ill., USA, this past week announced it is making an investment in building a new state-of-the-art sheet plant in Ontario, Calif., as well as investing as a minority partner in a sheet feeder in Ontario. The new sheet plant is expected to be manufacturing boxes by January 2017 and is intended to primarily supply the company's Victory Packaging operations in Southern California as well as other KapStone customers.

Chapelton Announces U.K. Distribution of Smurfit Kappa's Graphic Board (9/12/2016)

Specialty paper and cartonboard supplier, Chapelton (Kent, U.K.) announced this past week that it is now distributing Smurfit Kappa’s Graphic Board products range in the U.K., produced at its Wrexen Mill in Central Germany. The two companies have previously made an agreement to have Smurfit Kappa deliver grease resistant board in the U.K.

Laakirchen Papier Orders Valmet PM Modifications, New Winder (10/03/2016)

Valmet, Finland, will supply paper machine modifications and a new winder to Laakirchen Papier AG in Austria. Laakirchen Papier will convert its paper machine No. 10 (PM 10) to produce lightweight containerboard. Currently PM 10 is producing publication paper. Start up of the paper machine and the winder is scheduled for autumn of 2017.

Advance Packaging Corp. Expands Grand Rapids Facility (8/08/2016)

According to a report this past week by MLive (Grand Rapids, Mich., USA) Advance Packaging Corp. (Grand Rapids, Mich.) invested the money to add 75,000 sq.-ft. to its box plant. The additional space will house new production machines along with a new conveyor and sheet line. With the expansion, the company is switching some production to 12-hour shifts.

Containerboard Output by U.S Producers Mixed in September (10/24/2016)

U.S. containerboard production was 2% higher in September 2016 that in September 2015, according to the AF&PA (Washington, D.C., USA) 2016 U.S. Containerboard Statistics Report issued this past week. The month-over-month average daily production compared with August 2016 was 1.4% lower.
