Fortress to Make Major Investment in Birch Project at Dissolving Pulp Mill (11/15/2016)

Fortress Paper Ltd., Vancouver, B.C., Canada, this week announced a major investment to advance its strategic project of utilizing birch to manufacture dissolving pulp at the Fortress Specialty Cellulose Mill located in Thurso, Qué. Birch trees grow abundantly across Canada and are considered an underutilized species of tree. The project will ensure a better use of the mixed forest in the local region, increase economic activity, and result in other ancillary economic benefits.

Neucel Considering Restart of Port Alice Dissolving Pulp Mill (11/29/2016)

Unifor Local 514 has voted overwhelmingly in favor of entering into discussions with the Neucel specialty cellulose (dissolving pulp) mill (shut down since March 2015) in Port Alice, Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada. Neucel has recently been looking at ways to cut financial costs during the pulp mill's production curtailment, and it made a request to the 514 union to reopen the five-year collective agreement that was signed back in 2013, according to an article this past week in the North Island Gazette.

Andritz has received an order from Cartulinas CMPC S.A in Maule, Chile, to upgrade the complete bleaching system at its mill in, Maule, Chile, which processes 100% radiata pine for the production of softwood BTMP (bleached thermo-mechanical pulp). Start-p of the upgraded bleaching system is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2017.

Fortress Paper to Sell Lebel-Sur-Quévillon Pulp Mill, Sawmill for $15.36 Million (6/30/2016)

Fortress Paper Ltd., Vancouver, B.C., Canada, has, through its wholly owned subsidiaries, Fortress Global Cellulose Ltd. and Fortress Lumber Corp. (together with Fortress Global), entered into an asset purchase agreement with LSQ Energy L.P.  and LSQ Development L.P. (together with Energy LP), each a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nexolia Bioenergy Inc., providing for the sale of the buildings, equipment and other ancillary property relating to the non-operating pulp mill and sawmill, as well as the energy generation, connection and transmission plant and related equipment, located in Lebel-sur-Quévillon, Québec for an aggregate purchase price of $15.36 million.
