Fortress Paper to Sell Lebel-Sur-Quévillon Pulp Mill, Sawmill for $15.36 Million (6/30/2016)

Fortress Paper Ltd., Vancouver, B.C., Canada, has, through its wholly owned subsidiaries, Fortress Global Cellulose Ltd. and Fortress Lumber Corp. (together with Fortress Global), entered into an asset purchase agreement with LSQ Energy L.P.  and LSQ Development L.P. (together with Energy LP), each a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nexolia Bioenergy Inc., providing for the sale of the buildings, equipment and other ancillary property relating to the non-operating pulp mill and sawmill, as well as the energy generation, connection and transmission plant and related equipment, located in Lebel-sur-Quévillon, Québec for an aggregate purchase price of $15.36 million.

Action Group, India, Orders Valmet Defibrator System (10/13/2016)

Valmet, Finland, will deliver a new defibrator system to Action Group, India. The defibrator is an essential part of Action Group's new fiberboard line being built, and it will produce 28 tons per hour of bd (bone dry) fiber. Startup of the system is scheduled for September 2017. According to Valmet, an order with this scope of supply is usually valued in the range EUR 1.5-5 million.

According to a report this past Friday (June 24) by The Quoddy Tides (Eastport, Me., USA), new water quality standards proposed by the federal government for the St. Croix River could cost the Woodland Pulp mill millions of dollars and also could affect a number of communities, including Baileyville and Calais, that discharge carefully treated wastewater into the river.

Global Pulpwood Prices Rise (10/11/2016)

Wood fiber costs currently account for almost 60% of the cash costs when manufacturing wood pulp. Prices for both wood chips and pulp logs have trended downward for a long time, but this came to an abrupt halt in the 2Q/16 when the softwood price index rose 2.3% and the hardwood price index increased 3.7% from the 1Q/16, according to the latest Wood Resource Quarterly, Seattle, Wash., USA.

Prexair to Supply Oxygen to Fibria Celulose (10/12/2016)

Praxair Inc., Danbury, Conn., USA, through its Brazilian subsidiary White Martins, has signed a long-term agreement expanding its supply of oxygen to Fibria Celulose S/A in Três Lagoas, Brazil. Fibria is the world’s largest producer of eucalyptus pulp, exporting the product to customers in more than 40 countries.
