Developing Useful Methods (UMs)

How to Propose new Useful Methods (UMs)

If you’re interested in submitting a new Useful Method, please consult our complete list of subject categories.

As a member, you may submit a proposal for a new Useful Method. You can send a preliminary draft, which contains a description of the scope, to standards@tappi.org.

After your proposal is submitted, the Standards Manager will work with you to ensure that the proper format and procedure is followed, as outlined in the UM Guidelines.

Useful Methods Guidelines

If you are at the writing stage for your Useful Method, you can download the UM Guidelines. These guidelines describe the procedures and policies used to develop and publish Useful Methods. They also contain all the style and formatting information you will require.

In many ways, the UM Guidelines are similar to the Standards Guidelines, but are more flexible.

Press section water balance using portable sensors, Technical Information Paper TIP 0502-18 (2007) - WITHDRAWN

The document searched has been administratively withdrawn (which means it was withdrawn not for a technical reason, but for lack of timely review). Administratively withdrawn TIPs are not available on the web, but are available upon request. Administratively withdrawn and historical TIPs are free to TAPPI members, and there is a US$ 10 charge per document for nonmembers. The numerical index for TIPs (see links from the Standards page) shows all withdrawn documents (with a "wd" designation). To request administratively withdrawn or historical TIPs, contact standards@tappi.org. NOTE: These documents are made available for reference purposes; withdrawn documents and previous versions of existing documents are NOT currently sanctioned by TAPPI or the technical experts who develop TAPPI TIPs.
