Free TAPPI Webinar Today: COVID-19 Coronavirus Personnel Protection Using Textile Substrates

TAPPI’s Nonwovens, Engineers, and Technologists (NET) Division is holding a free webinar on April 28th  at 1:00 p.m. EST called Personnel Protection Using Textile Substrates.

Among the many challenges in the current battle against the unprecedented COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic is the availability of preventive textile substrates and general information on products such as face masks and sanitary wipes. This timely webinar will discuss basic information of textile substrates and their functional applications. Information of different textile substrates such as nonwovens, that are at the frontlines of defense, will be highlighted.

This webinar will be held by Dr. Seshadri Ramkumar, a full professor at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas since 1999. Prior to there, Dr. Ramkumar earned his PhD at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. Over the past two decades he has held expertise in the field of nonwovens, particularly in advanced materials and the functional finishing of fibrous materials.

In addition, two of his inventions have been met with commercial acclaim: FiberTect, a toxic chemical decontamination wipe, and the Towelie wipe, an oil absorbent. A member of SDC, AATCC, TAPPI's Nonwovens Division, as well as a life member of India's Textile Association, Dr. Ramkumar has been recognized by the highest awards in the field, as an Honorary Fellow of Textile Association (India) and the Mark Hollingsworth Technical Prize for nonwoven research by TAPPI. He is also a contributor to a column called "TexSnips", where he disseminates current events in the textile research and development throughout the world.
