Be a SSIG Superhero
Are you thinking of getting involved in the creation of TAPPI Standards and/or Technical Information Papers (TIPs)? Now’s the perfect time. You can use your knowledge and technical information to help shape the industry’s future. This is a great opportunity to expand your knowledge and network, share your expertise and become an industry influencer.
TAPPI Standard Test Methods are procedures and related practices used in the measurement, evaluation, and description of pulp, paper, packaging, and related products, including raw materials used in their manufacture, use, or in scientific investigations of any such substances.
TAPPI is an ANSI (American National Standards Institute) accredited standards developer and many of the Standards are submitted to ANSI for consideration to become American National Standards.
There is a Standard-Specific Interest Group (SSIG) for each TAPPI Standard made up of interested industry professionals who regularly review and vote on that standard. Each interest group must reach consensus through a process that guarantees all opinions are considered and all objections addressed.
All SSIGs require a minimum of 10 members in order to ballot and vote on a draft of a method and many have open ballots. The largest need for volunteers is on the Pulp and Chemical Properties Committee.
Who can participate? TAPPI membership is not mandatory to participate in a SSIG, but diverse interest categories are required so there is a lack of dominance by any single interest category, individual or organization. Young Professionals and those new to the industry are also encouraged to join. Learn more about SSIGs.
