Build Upon Your Foundation with FPS Wood Fundamentals Course

Build out your wood science knowledge with the popular Introduction to Wood Science and Forest Products Course, presented by the Forest Products Society (FPS) in conjunction with Mississippi State University (MSU), September 11 – 13, 2018, at MSU’s Department of Sustainable Bioproducts in Starkville, Mississippi.

This comprehensive, three-day course was created specifically for people in wood products manufacturing who do not have a formal education in the field. Suppliers, consultants, claims agents, and anyone seeking to understand trees, their harvesting, and how wood is processed into today’s products are also good candidates for this event. Current issues in the forest products industry, such as green building and product testing, are also covered in the course.

Instructors include subject matter experts:

  • Ms. Misty Booth
  • Dr. Fred Franca
  • Dr. Frank Owens
  • Dr. Beth Stokes
  • Dr. Hyungsuk “Thomas” Lim
  • Dr. Rubin Shmulsky

As a value-add, course participants will develop skills through hands-on exercises and sessions in MSU’s state-of-the-art Forest Products and Wood Science Learning Center. In addition, attendees will receive an experiential understanding of wood processing when they tour the Southeastern Timber Products Lumber Company and Sawmill in Ackerman, MS.
