Finnish softwood bark contains large amounts of water-soluble tannin-polyphenols, which can be used as renewable alternatives to the fossil and toxic phenol compounds widely used in glues. VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, the Natural Resources Institute of Finland (Luke) and the Southeastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk) are developing an industrial production method for a polyphenol extraction process as part of the SusBinders project.

Tembec Orders Valmet QCS for Tartas SAS in France (9/21/2016)

Tembec's (Canada) specialty dissolving pulp mill in Tartas, France, has ordered a Valmet IQ quality control system (QCS) and an expansion of its existing Valmet DNA distributed control system (DCS) for its pulp dryer. By complementing its current control system with this investment, the mill is targeting to improve process stability and reduce lost time during transition phases such as startups, breaks, and speed changes. Startup of the new QCS is scheduled for October 2016. Typically the order value of this kind of automation system deliveries is below EUR 1 million, according to Valmet.

Lee & Man’s Vietnamese P&P Mill Faces Implementation Ban (8/02/2016)

According to a report by VietNamNet (Bà Triệu, Vietnam), a large pulp mill project planned for the country is experiencing regulatory frustration prior to starting up. In 2007, the Hau Giang People’s Committee licensed Lee & Man Group (Hong Kong, China) to develop a $348 million pulp mill with an annual capacity of 330,000 metric tpy and a $280 million paper manufacturing factory with an annual capacity of 420,000 metric tpy.
