Developing TAPPI Standards

Standards are of the utmost importance in the pulp, paper and converting industries as they have a serious impact on business and trade. As a member, you are eligible to get involved in the process of developing new Standards for the industry.

How to Propose new Standards

Are you interested in proposing a new Standard? We encourage members to consult our complete list of subject categories for Standards below, or view the PDF list.

If you have a general idea for a Standard, you can complete the New Idea Submission Form. We will review your idea and identify the right committee or group to work on your suggestion.

If you already further along, you can send an initial draft to A Standards manager will then work with you to develop a Standard-Specific Interest Group (SSIG) for the new Standard. This will set in motion the development and review process, which is described in the Standards Guidelines.

A.Celli to Rebuild Essel Kagit Tissue Machine at Turkey Mill (5/31/2016)

A.Celli Paper, Lucca, Italy, a specialized supplier of turnkey tissue plants, has finalized a key tissue machine rebuild order with Essel Selüloz ve Kâğıt Sanayi Tic. A.ş., Turkey.

CMPC Signs Contract with Voith to Supply New Tissue Machine in Peru (9/26/2016)

CMPC, São Paulo, Brazil, has signed a contract with Voith Paper, Germany, for the supply of a complete VTM 4 double-width tissue machine, which will be installed at CMPC’s new production facility of its subsidiary Protisa in Cañete, Peru.

Domtar Acquires Home Delivery Incontinent Supplies Co. (9/13/2016)

Domtar Corp.., Montreal, Que., Canada, has agreed to purchase the privately-held Home Delivery Incontinent Supplies Co. (HDIS), Olivette, Mo., USA, a leading, national direct-to-consumer provider of adult incontinence and related products, for a total cash consideration of $45 million, with a possible earn-out payment of up to $10 million. Closing of the transaction is expected by year-end, subject to customary closing conditions.

SCA Invests in Efficiency Realignment of EU Tissue Production (9/08/2016)

To further improve efficiency and strengthen the competitiveness of its tissue operations, SCA (Stockholm, Sweden) has decided to implement restructuring measures at its production plants in Hondouville and Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, France, the company announced.

Recard to Rebuild Drenik Tissue Machine in Serbia (5/31/2016)

Recard, Italy, reports that it is returning to Serbia, thanks to the renewed trust by Drenik ND d.o.o., which placed an order for the rebuild of PM 1 supplied in 2004.

Ten Toscotec Tissue Machines Now Running at Vinda’s Sanjiang Mill in China (9/06/2016)

Vinda Paper (China) Co., at its Sanjiang mill, Jiangmen, has started up two new Toscotec (Lucca, Italy) machines, TM 9 and TM 10. Both machines are AHEAD-2.0M, with a design speed of 1,800 m/min. TM 10 is the 21st machine supplied by Toscotec to Vinda.

JSC Syassky Starts up Toscotec AHEAD Tissue Machine at Syasstroy Mill (5/30/2016)

JSC Syassky, Russia, has started up its 45,000 metric tpy Toscotec, Italy, AHEAD-1.5M tissue line at the Syasstroy mill in in the Leningrad region of Russia.

Sofidel Orders New A.Celli Rewinder (9/30/2016)

A.Celli Paper, Italy, has recently concluded an order for a latest-generation rewinder model E-WIND® with the Italian Group Sofidel, a world market leader in the production of tissue for hygienic and domestic use.

SCA Joins Supply Network of Premier Healthcare Group Purchasing Organization (9/29/2016)

SCA, Philadelphia, Pa., USA, a global hygiene leader and forest products company that produces the Tork® brand of Away-from-Home (AfH) professional hygiene products, will join the supply network of Premier, Charlotte, N.C., the second largest healthcare Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) in the U.S. Effective Oct. 1, 2016, SCA will provide Tork paper towels, tissues, napkins, and dispensers to Premier's network of approximately 3,600 member hospitals and 120,000 alternate site locations, including urgent care, assisted living, and medical facilities.

Metsä Tissue Orders Valmet TM Rebuilds at Germany, Sweden Mills (9/20/2016)

Metsä Tissue, Finland, has selected Valmet (Finland) as supplier for the upgrades of tissue machine TM 3 at its Raubach, Germany, mill, and the tissue machine at its Pauliström, Sweden, mill. The value of the orders was not disclosed.

Domtar Optimizing Fluff Pulp Production, Streamlining Plymouth Mill (9/30/2016)

Domtar Corp., Fort Mill, S.C., USA, this week announced a plan to optimize fluff pulp manufacturing at its Plymouth, N.C., mill. The streamlining measures will strengthen the mill’s position in the global fluff pulp markets.

Resolute's Calhoun Tissue Operation on Track for Q1 2017 Startup (9/06/2016)

Resolute Forest Products Inc., Montreal, Que., Canada, today (Sept. 6, 2016) announced completion of commissioning of the first tissue converting line at its state-of-the-art tissue facility currently under construction in Calhoun, Tenn., USA. The remaining two lines will be commissioned by year-end. 

Kyiv to Replace Yankee on Tissue Machine in Ukraine (9/12/2016)

As part of its tissue machine modernization project, Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill, Ukraine, will replace the existing yankee dryer cylinder at its mill in Obukhov near Kiev with a new one, manufactured by Valmet, Finland. According to the company, the new equipment was shipped from Karlstad, Sweden, on Aug. 31, 2016, a month before the scheduled date.

Hengan Starts up Valmet Tissue Machine Ahead of Schedule at Wuhu, China Mill (9/05/2016)

Hengan's (China) 19th tissue machine, an Advantage DCT 200HS tissue line supplied by Valmet (Finland), successfully started up in August at the company's mill in Wuhu, Anhui province in China. The installation and commissioning were performed in record time and the startup went smoothly, the company reports. The new tissue machine adds another 60,000 metric tpy of tissue products to Hengan's current production of more than one million metric tpy.

Proper Yankee Doctor Set Up and Operation
