Metsä Board has completed an EUR 60 million modernisation project at its Simpele paperboard mill, marking a significant milestone in product performance. The upgraded board machine is now fully operational, and the renewed MetsäBoard Classic FBB folding boxboard is available for customer deliveries.

The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) has reached financial close on a $660 million loan to Irving Pulp & Paper to support the large-scale modernization of the company's pulp mill in west Saint John, New Brunswick.

Valmet will deliver a new evaporation line to Altri Biotek mill in Portugal. This delivery is part of Altri’s EUR 75 million project to convert the Biotek mill to produce dissolving pulp for textile industry. The new evaporation line significantly improves the mill’s energy and water efficiency, meeting the needs of Altri’s mill expansion.

Sappi Europe announced the initiation of a consultation process at its Alfeld Mill in Germany as part of a proposed partial asset restructure. This step is being taken in response to sustained financial challenges and a structural decline in demand across Europe.

Driven by structural overcapacity in the graphic paper markets and the need to ensure long-term competitiveness of its operations, UPM Communication Papers plans to end paper production at UPM Kaukas paper mill, Finland, reducing the annual production capacity of coated mechanical paper by 300,000 metric tons.
