Get Involved in Standards and TIPs
“Getting involved with standards offers valuable opportunities for professional development. It allows you to deepen your understanding of industry best practices, stay updated on the latest advancements, and expand your network by interacting with experts and peers.”

Expand Your Network and Gain Industry Knowledge with TAPPI Standards and Technical Information Papers
Your TAPPI Student Membership includes a License to the library of TAPPI Standards and Technical Information Papers (TIPs), the ‘rules of the road’ for the industry. They provide a common language and establish best practices. There are over 300 TIPs and more than 240 Test Methods written and reviewed by members. Each Standard has a Standard-Specific Interest Group (SSIG) made up of industry professionals who regularly review and vote on that standard. Every TIP has a Working Group made up of at least three members that discuss critical processes and procedures in the industry.
You’re Invited to Participate in the Process!
Your time is valuable, and so is your perspective. As a student, you bring a fresh perspective to developing and reviewing Standards and TIPs.
Your opinion matters. Different views and perspectives are valued. Deep experience is not required to participate.
What is required?
- Willingness to grow as an industry influencer while sharing your expertise, knowledge and technical information to help shape the industry’s future
- Inclination to gain an instant network of technically inclined and involved peers
- Curiosity and a thirst for knowledge. There’s no better way to gain a comprehensive understanding of what test methods and TIPs do, how they work or learn about their practical uses
By participating, you help maintain superior quality in our industry and inspire others to contribute. You can join an SSIG at any stage of the process and participate at your convenience by visiting TAPPI.org/joinstandards. Send an email to tip@tappi.org to join a Working Group or contact standards@tappi.org or TAPPI Standards Manager, Brittaney Lovett, blovett@tappi.org with any questions.
