What’s Really Happening in Your Wet End?
Registration is now open for TAPPI’s Introduction to Wet End Chemistry course, taking place June 2–4, 2026 at TAPPI Headquarters in Peachtree Corners (Atlanta), GA.
This interactive three-day training provides papermaking professionals with a practical understanding of wet end chemistry, and the role additives play in product quality, process efficiency, and troubleshooting. Designed for those seeking introductory to intermediate knowledge of wet end processes, the course helps participants connect chemical principles with real-world mill operations.
Unlike many training programs that only touch briefly on wet end additives, this course offers an in-depth focus on how additives influence the papermaking process. What they can do, what they cannot do, and how they should be applied effectively. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how furnish properties, chemical interactions, and process conditions impact paper machine performance.
Through expert instruction, case studies, and collaborative discussions, attendees will learn how to implement wet end technologies that improve efficiency and product consistency. The course also explores strategies for selecting and optimizing additives, troubleshooting chemistry-related issues, and responding to changing fiber qualities, regulations, and competitive pressures.
Participants will leave with the ability to better evaluate the selection and use of chemicals, identify factors affecting retention and drainage during paper formation, and address process challenges associated with wet end additives and chemical deposits.
The course is ideal for chemical and process engineers, mill superintendents, product developers, research and development engineers, process and quality control technicians, and suppliers who need a stronger foundation in wet end chemistry. It is particularly valuable for mills training newer employees or addressing knowledge gaps created by workforce transitions.
To ensure meaningful discussion and ample question-and-answer opportunities with instructors, attendance is limited.
Professionals looking to strengthen their understanding of wet end chemistry and its impact on papermaking performance are encouraged to register early to secure a spot in the course.
