Powerful Perspectives on Safety Leadership Take the Stage at PPSA 2026

The Paper & Packaging Safety Association (PPSA) has announced the keynote lineup for its 82nd Safety and Health Conference, June 7-10, 2026 in Tampa, Florida. The event will feature three dynamic speakers delivering actionable strategies, fresh perspectives, and inspiring insights for today’s safety professionals.

Centered around the theme “Paper & Packaging Well-Being: Protecting People Behind the Product,” this year’s keynote program reflects the evolving needs of safety leaders, with a focus on human performance, leadership in times of change, and building a culture rooted in trust and care.

Workplace safety remains a critical priority across all industries. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports approximately 2.5 million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses each year, while the Occupational Safety and Health Administration estimates that serious incidents cost U.S. businesses tens of billions of dollars annually. In industries like pulp, paper, and packaging—where complex operations and heavy equipment are part of daily work—the need for practical, people-focused safety strategies is especially important.

The conference will open with Jake Mazulewicz, Director of JMA Human Reliability Strategies, LLC, presenting “Seven Practical Steps to Build Reliability, Safety & Trust.” Drawing on decades of experience, Mazulewicz will share a practical framework to help organizations reduce errors, strengthen systems, and build trust—providing tools attendees can apply immediately to improve performance and safety outcomes.

On day two, Jen Slaw, motivational speaker, engineer, and professional juggler, will deliver “Leading in Times of Change: Balancing Engagement & Execution for New Possibilities in Innovation, Growth & Change.” Known for her engaging style and unique blend of storytelling and live juggling, Slaw will explore how leaders can stay focused, inspire teams, and drive innovation while navigating constant change.

Closing the conference, Stephen Peterson, Industry Account Manager at Caterpillar Safety Services, Caterpillar Inc., will present “From Enforcer to Ally: Understanding How Humans Work to Build a Culture of Learning and Care.” Peterson will challenge traditional safety approaches and introduce human-centered strategies that foster trust, encourage learning, and support continuous improvement.

Together, these keynote presentations set the tone for a conference designed to deliver practical, people-focused solutions. Attendees will gain insights they can apply immediately—helping reduce risk, improve performance, and strengthen safety culture at every level of their organization.
