Authors Take Center Stage at TAPPICon 2026: QCS Volume 2 Book Signing Draws Enthusiastic Crowd

Monday evening at TAPPICon 2026 brought a special moment for the paper and process control community. During the conference reception, five of the authors behind Paper Machine Quality Control Systems (QCS) Volume 2: Control Systems and Applications, Kerry Figiel, Shih-Chin Chen, Michael Forbes, Tim Murphy, and Seyhan Nuyan, gathered to sign copies of the newly released TAPPI Press title, meeting readers face-to-face and sharing in the excitement surrounding its publication.

The signing was a fitting celebration for a book that has been eagerly anticipated across the industry. Volume 2 picks up where its predecessor left off, guiding engineers and operators from foundational concepts through advanced techniques in both machine direction and cross-machine direction control. Practical, hands-on, and grounded in real-world application, it fills a gap that many in the field have long felt, a resource that doesn't just explain the theory, but answers the essential question: "How do we actually do this?"

A Community Effort, Years in the Making

Volume 2 is a project of TAPPI's Quality Control System (QCS) Common Interest Group (CIG) of the Process Control Division and represents years of collaborative effort from eight contributing authors: Kerry Figiel, Johan Backstrom, Shih-Chin Chen, Jonathan Crawford, Michael Forbes, Tim Murphy, Seyhan Nuyan, and Jack Tippett. The depth of expertise assembled across its 310 pages is a testament to the strength of TAPPI's technical community.

A portion of the proceeds from every sale supports TAPPI's Process Control Division Student Scholarships — meaning that purchasing a copy also invests directly in the next generation of industry professionals.
