Zach will moderate a lively Q&A, with the audience joining in.

Zach Flannery is a data scientist at Sappi North America, a global company specializing in packaging, graphic, and release papers. He has been with the company for over three years and utilizes his experience along with advanced analytics tools to optimize high value processes across the Sappi paper mills in North America. Previously, he served as a process engineer in the paper business unit at the Somerset mill. Zach holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maine and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Analytics through the Georgia Institute of Technology. Zach lives in Sidney, ME, with his Fiancé, enjoying hiking and fishing in the summertime.

Gokul Gopakumar

As Vice President of Technology and Business Development at SUN Automation Group, Gokul Gopakumar leads the company’s global growth initiatives, new product development, and the implementation of emerging technologies. He continues to guide the evolution of Helios—SUN’s OEM-agnostic IIoT platform—designed by corrugated experts to meet the unique needs of the corrugated industry.

With more than a decade of experience in engineering leadership across industries including Oil & Gas, Food & Beverage, and power infrastructure, Gokul brings a deep understanding of innovation and industrial automation. His previous role as SUN’s Senior Director of Electrical Engineering positioned him at the forefront of designing and deploying cutting-edge solutions for the box plant of the future.

Mariana Sandin

Sr. Industry Principal at Seeq, driving the next wave of industrial innovation by helping companies harness time-series data and AI for smarter, faster decisions. With a background in chemical engineering and nearly two decades in industrial software, she brings deep expertise across mining, metals, pulp & paper, and manufacturing. A bilingual speaker and respected voice in the industry, she’s known for making complex technologies accessible, actionable, and transformative in the journey toward more efficient and sustainable operations.

 

Philip Pearce

Senior Solutions Consultant at Seeq Corporation, where he helps industrial organizations unlock insights from time series data to drive operational excellence. With over a decade of experience in chemical engineering and process analytics, Philip brings deep industry expertise to customers across a range of manufacturing operations. Prior to Seeq, he held engineering roles at Honeywell, Huntsman-Rubicon, and Northwest Analytics, where he specialized in chemical plant startup, process optimization, and advanced analytics deployment. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University and a B.S. in Biology from the University of Kentucky. He lives in Anacortes, Washington, with his wife and two Leonberger dogs, Bowie and Cooper. Outside of work, Philip enjoys tabletop game design, fly-fishing in the Pacific Northwest, and hiking the local trails.
