Application Deadline Approaching for TAPPI’s New Diversity Scholarships

TAPPI continues to build and expand on its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts with the launch of the TAPPI DEI Scholarship, a new $1,000 scholarship for underrepresented students who have an interest in working in the paper, packaging or converting industry.  Applications are due October 7 for the three scholarships that are available for the 2022-2023 academic year.

The scholarship was established in support of populations that include, but are not limited to African American, Native American, Hispanic, Latinx, Asian Pacific Islander, LGBTQ+, and People with Disabilities. All applicants must be students currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs, and demonstrate an interest in a career in paper, pulp, tissue or packaging.

“The purpose of the inaugural TAPPI DEI Scholarship is to reach underrepresented students who may not know there are opportunities in our industry and assure them the TAPPI community welcomes and values their contributions,” said TAPPI President and CEO Larry N. Montague.

DEI Scholarship recipients will also receive a one-year complimentary TAPPI Student Membership, complimentary registration to attend a TAPPI conference, and a one-year mentorship from an industry leader within TAPPI’s membership.

TAPPI’s commitment to supporting gender and age diversity has been an integral part of its mission for nearly 10 years. The Women in Industry (WIN) and Young Professionals (YP) Divisions were both launched to attract and retain a more diverse workforce, while also providing the educational resources and networking opportunities needed to help advance careers.

Applications for the TAPPI DEI Scholarship are due October 7, 2022. To learn more about the scholarship or to apply, visit tappi.org/DEI.
