Foam Forming Series Features Cost Saving Advancements

The paper industry is the third largest consumer of energy in the U.S. It is also one of the largest users of raw materials. With such high energy and raw material requirements, the industry is constantly looking for sustainable solutions to reduce costs and increase efficiencies. In addition, there is greater pressure to develop new fiber products due to the global digitalization trend.

A way to reduce manufacturing costs and enable production of novel sustainable high performance products is through foam forming of the fiber web and foam assisted application of chemicals. Industry professionals will have the opportunity to gain insight on the advantages of foam forming and discover the latest advancements and technologies available during the Foam Forming four-part series at TAPPICon 2022, April 30-May 4, 2022 Charlotte, N.C.

Offered jointly by TAPPICon’s Paper Additives and Paper Fundamentals tracks, the peer-reviewed series includes the following expert-led presentations:

  • Chemical Addition to Wet Webs Using Foam Application - Tuomo Hjelt, VTT
  • Scalable Method to Produce Foams like Wood - Juha Koivisto, Helsinki University of Technology
  • Z-Direction Chemical Distribution Analysis for New Application Methods - Matthew Nickolas, Solenis LLC
  • Advances in Multiphase Forming - Mustafa Usta, Georgia Tech University
  • Real-time Digital Microscopy of Foaming Processes - Markus Honkanen, Pixact Ltd
  • Flow Rheology of Light Foams Generated from Aqueous Solutions of Polyvinyl Alcohol - Ari Jäsberg, VTT
  • Computational Modeling of Multiphase Forming Processes - Dogukan Karahan, Georgia Institute of Technology
  • The Effect of Acoustic Pressure on High-Density Foam with Potential Application to MP Forming - Uzay Karahan Cansu, Georgia Tech University
  • New Opportunities in Paper and Nonwoven Industries with Foam Assisted Web Forming and Chemical Application - Antti Oksanen, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland
