TAPPISAFE Celebrates National Safety Month

The National Safety Council designated June as National Safety Month in 1996. Their goal was to increase awareness of the leading safety and health risks facing employees and decrease the risk for workplace injuries and deaths in the U.S.

In 2021, the U.S. experienced over 5,190 workplace deaths and 2.6 million work-related injuries (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). While safety is important year-round, during the month of June the nation focuses on efforts to prevent injury and death in the workplace, creating an environment where safety comes first. TAPPISAFE® is the first industry-recognized and designed safety orientation and verification program for the pulp, paper, tissue, packaging and converting industries. Launched in 2012, TAPPISAFE has given more than one million tests to over 225,000 students.

To help celebrate National Safety Month, TAPPISAFE is entering all students who take TAPPISAFE 101 courses into a weekly drawing for prizes throughout the month of June. Each time a student takes a 101 course, they get another entry into the drawing. Administrators of the TAPPISAFE program at each participating company are also eligible for prize drawings. Visit the website for details.

TAPPISAFE’s 101 courses provide safety awareness fundamentals and are an excellent complement to the program’s Basic Orientation, recognized as an OSHA-awareness level safety orientation throughout the industry. TAPPISAFE’s Site-Specific Orientations are customized to meet each site’s safety requirements. The program ensures contractors have the necessary safety orientations before they arrive at a facility and are ready to work. Courses can be accessed any time or place with an internet connection, allowing the workforce to easily complete each orientation. All records are updated in real-time and accessible 24/7.

Today, more than 90 facilities and 10,000 contractors and suppliers are currently taking advantage of the cost savings, time efficiencies and reduced regulatory scrutiny that TAPPISAFE provides.
