TAPPI’s Engineering Division Releases Major TIP Updates for Critical Equipment
Effective inspection is essential to maintaining the safety, reliability, and mechanical integrity of mill equipment. To help industry professionals make informed inspection decisions, TAPPI's Engineering Division has released significant updates to several Technical Information Papers (TIPs) covering some of the industry's most critical assets.
Key Updates include:
TIP 0402-16: Guidelines for Inspection and Nondestructive Testing of Cast Iron Paper Machine Dryers has been revised to better reflect real-world inspection conditions and provides additional details on damage mechanisms and inspection practices.
TIP 0402-27: Guidelines for Inspection of Continuous Digesters and Impregnation Vessels now offers new guidance on inspection for cracks, as well as expanded coverage of external corrosion. It lists known damage mechanisms, and highlights areas where inspection efforts should be prioritized.
TIP 0416-26: Best Practice for Recovery Boiler Inspection (Optimizing Inspection Scope) has undergone a major revision. It addresses fitness-for-service and now features clear and concise information on recovery boiler damage mechanisms. Preferred inspection methods for each region of the boiler are listed.
These updated TIPs help maintenance, engineering, and reliability teams make better decisions, focus inspection resources where they matter most, and support long-term equipment performance.
