In my lifetime, the most significant technical events in papermaking have been the adaptation of gap formers and the shoe press, and the conversion of clothing to synthetic materials. Aside from the fundamental paper products so much a part of all of our lives, my favorite product is a “Write-in-the-Rain” pad. It can get completely soaked, and not only does it not turn to mush, but you can still write on it! This is an important characteristic if you are trying to take notes while standing above a 1450F fourdrinier!
