A pulp and paper mill is a complex, interconnected and massive engineering marvel. Now, you’ll be able to learn how the processes work and why. This workshop provides a broad overview of the basic concepts in pulp and paper manufacturing, including pulping, bleaching, chemical recovery, recycling, papermaking and converting. You'll explore how various processes impact paper properties through both lab exercises and operation of a pilot-plant paper machine. This introductory-level workshop is appropriate for anyone in technical and non-technical roles.

Dr. Robert Moon leads a research program addressing gaps in particle-size measurement capability of nanocellulose (NC) materials. This webinar will briefly summarize four tools for NC particle size measurement that are available or are under development.

IFPED Summer Series

An immersive learning and networking experience focused on paper coating and barrier technologies. Featuring more than a dozen expert guest speakers, the program combines in-depth technical sessions with tours of the WMU Paper Pilot Plant and specialized laboratories. Attendees will explore key topics such as pigments, binders, additives, formulation development and characterization, rheology, coating equipment and processes, coated products and applications, packaging development, and barrier materials, with barrier coating technology integrated throughout due to its strong industry relevance.

This introductory to intermediate-level course will help you expand your overall understanding of kraft pulp mill operations and broaden your awareness of how one part of the process affects other operations. With this knowledge, you'll be better equipped to troubleshoot quality problems and feel more confident in your interactions among process engineers and operators.

This introductory class features morning classroom sessions followed by afternoon sessions of guided, hands-on exercises operating the UW-Stevens Point Fourdrinier pilot paper machine. You will work on a team for the exercises with supervision by UWSP staff.
