The Impact of Utilizing the Leading Edge Sootblower Nozzle on Recovery Boiler Superheater Platens – Webinar (Free)
Wednesday, April 06th
1:00 PM – 1:45 PM ET

Fireside deposit accumulation on the leading edge of recovery boiler superheater platens can be difficult to control with conventional sootblowers. Uncontrolled accumulation of this leading edge deposit may bridge the space between adjacent superheater platens, causing plugging in the superheater section and costly unscheduled shutdown. This presentation will discuss the deposit removal mechanism by the leading edge nozzle, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis of the jet force exerted on the superheater platens, the jet impact on the platens, and the operational guideline that a recovery boiler operator may use to operate the leading edge nozzles.

Increasing MTBR for CI0₂ Applications in the Pulp & Paper Industry – Webinar (Free)
Thursday, April 07th
11:00 AM – 11:45 AM ET

In this webinar, John Crane will discuss how a southeastern pulp and paper mill used one seal standard design to serve both low and high pressure sealing on its chlorine dioxide bleaching processes ClO2 transfer pumps. We’ll show how the use of Dynamic Lift Up-stream Pumping (USP) technology allows the creation of a high pressure, low volume lubrication delivery system, providing a clean environment for the seal to operate which improves pump performance and mean time between repair (MTBR). The mill chose John Crane’s engineered Type 5620 USP Dynamic Lift non-contacting seal face treatment to improve MTBR and to reduce water waste. As a result, the mill has increased MTBR (mean time between repair) by 500% and is saving up to 1 million gallons of water per year, per seal, since the upgrade was completed.

HCl Gas: A Versatile Catalyst for Retrieving Nanocellulose and Sugars form Biomass – Nano Webinar (Free)
Tuesday, April 26th
9:00 AM – 10:00 AM ET

While acid hydrolysis can be seen as an outdated or, at best, traditional means of degrading cellulose into nanocrystals or sugars, the use of HCl gas has demonstrated viable, modern pathways to added value products from biomass. This webinar summarizes the application of HCl gas on diverse cellulosic substrates, including various cellulose polymorphs, solid wood, bacterial cellulose, holocellulose, and agricultural residues. Processes leading directly into high yields of nanocrystals are presented.
