Entrepreneurial scientist and business manager with 10 years comprehensive innovation experience spanning all phases from ideation through product development, process development, scale-up, commercialization, manufacturing, sales, and customer service, involving multiple patented biorefinery technology platforms for converting biomass into fuels, chemicals, and nanocellulose. Holder of nine patents and 120 patents-pending in the biorefinery and nanocellulose fields. Inventor and business leader for nanocellulose process technology and products. Extensive experience managing research and development projects, joint development projects with nanocellulose end-user companies, and government funded projects.

Michael Farrell is the Executive Vice President, Paperboard Manufacturing Division of Graphic Packaging Holding Company. Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President, Supply Chain since January 2018. Prior to January 2018, Mr. Farrell had served as Vice President, Recycled Board Mills of Graphic Packaging International, LLC and its predecessor companies (“GPI”) from January 1, 2013; Senior Manufacturing Manager of GPI from October 28, 2009 until December 31, 2012. From December 11, 2008 until October 27, 2009, Mr. Farrell was the Manufacturing Manager of the West Monroe, Louisiana mill and from September 1, 2006 until December 10, 2008 was the General Manager of the Middletown, Ohio mill of GPI.

Reports to the Chair. Serves as the Associations Chief Executive Officer. Consistent with board approved policies, plans, organizes, and coordinates the activities of the Association to ensure that authorized operational objectives designed to meet member needs are attained. Recommends operational and program policies designed to provide economical and productive performance, forward-looking programming, and constructive growth of the Association. Maintains effective internal staff relationships and external contact. Has overall responsibility for headquarters staff operations.
