Advanced Bonding Course: An In-depth Look at the Bonding Process

This course helps students increase their understanding of the corrugated bonding process, including factors and variables that impact bond performance, determining proper bonding settings, glue line analysis, combined board caliber and process centerlining. It also helps students identify the causes of warp and how to correct warp with coated liners.

It’s All About the Bond.

As a corrugated professional, you know that the quality and performance of the adhesive bond is essential. There are many issues in the industry today such as the loss of skill sets due to attrition; operators knowing what to do, but not why; the difficulty of attracting youth to our industry; no time for senior staff to properly train the newest recruits; and staff struggling to find solutions when problems arise.

The TAPPI Advanced Bonding Course is designed to increase students' knowledge of the entire corrugated bonding process. Everything is addressed with a focus on developing a better understanding of the daily challenges faced. All topics are discussed at a level that appeals to beginners, as well as seasoned veterans.

This course is taught by a distinguished panel of industry experts and examines the ingredients and mechanics of the starch-based adhesive, including glue line analysis, process centerlining, bond strength testing, and identifying causes & corrections for warp.

Ignited with Interactivity.

Hands-on training activities are sure to keep any learning boredom at bay. Engage with other attendees through activities such as Poll Everywhere real-time digital polling from instructors, a warp activity, and a defect board session using a real soak tank.

Course Topics Include:

  • Factors and variables that impact bond quality
  • Relationship between IR thermometers, heat imaging, & moisture management
  • How to determine proper settings
  • Doublebacker problem-solving
  • What the soak tank has been waiting to tell you

After completing this course, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify factors and variables that impact a successful bond
  • Understand the significance of temperature & moisture management
  • Be better equipped to optimize centerlining & machine settings
  • Increase process troubleshooting skills
  • Better utilize the soak tank & other tests as diagnostic and performance tools

TAPPI will award 17 Professional Development Hours or 1.7 CEUs for completion of course.
