Process and Product Quality
GET INVOLVED IN THE DIVISION
Welcome to our Process and Product Quality Division page. The division is comprised of hundreds of professionals who assess and promote process and product quality through continuous improvement and application of state-of-the-art testing implementation and quality management techniques.
Division Chair: Steve Berg, Thwing-Albert Instrument Company
Division Vice Chair: Walter Rantanen, SGS Integrated Paper Services, Inc.
The Process and Product Quality Division’s mission is to assess and promote process and product quality through continuous improvement and application of state-of-the-art testing, implementation and quality management techniques. The leadership of the committees makes up the Division Council. The P&PQ Division is responsible for ~75% of TAPPI’s Standards.
Process and Product Quality Division Council
The Process and Product Quality Division Councils main goal is to assess and promote process and product quality through continuous improvement and application of state-of-the-art testing, implementation and quality management techniques.
Optical Properties Committee
The Optical Properties Committee explores methods for evaluating the appearance properties of the raw materials or products of the pulp and paper industries.
Physical Properties Committee
The Physical Properties Committee explores methods related to the physical properties of paper or paperboard important to its manufacture and end use.
Tissue Properties: A Subcommittee of the Physical Properties Committee
The Tissue Properties Subcommittee tests methods related to hygienic tissue products, including kitchen towel, facial hankies, bath, table napkins and wipes. Not included are wrapping tissue and baby diapers.
Pulp and Chemical Properties Committee
The Pulp and Chemical Properties Committees role is exploring physical and microscopical methods for the characterization of fibrous materials used in the pulp and paper industries, and chemical methods designed for fundamental studies, control of manufacturing processes, or characterization of raw materials of the pulp and paper industries, including those methods applicable to both pulp and paper
Each year, the Process and Product Quality Division co-sponsors the Runnability Fun Run at PaperCon.
The Technical Committees of the Process and Product Quality Division work together throughout the year to solve problems, develop technical papers, plan conference sessions, and more.
Each year, the Process and Product Quality Division is proud to provide several awards.
We are proud to provide TAPPI Connect as a centralized, online resource for our members, consultants and volunteers to network, share knowledge, problem solve and collaborate.
