TAPPI’s Paper and Board Division Announces Formation of a Fiber Molding Committee

ATLANTA (July 15, 2025)– TAPPI’s Paper and Board Division is proud to announce the creation of a new Fiber Molding Committee (FMC). FMC members will develop industry standard test methods for molded fiber and thermoformed pulp products to help companies ensure form, function, and performance are measured consistently.

“TAPPI was founded to develop and support Standards for the pulp and paper industry. This focus on expanding Standards in fiber molding is timely and needed,” said TAPPI President and CEO, Larry N. Montague. “It’s great to see TAPPI Standards continue to grow with the formation of this committee.”

FMC intends to create and maintain technical information papers, establish guidelines and standards, and present tutorials, courses and webinars to promote understanding, development, application, and control for operation of Fiber Molding machines including auxiliary equipment from the mill repulping system and thick stock chests through the hot press and finishing equipment.

FMC will have a Steering Committee and four subcommittees and invites industry experts to join an upcoming virtual meeting that will focus on Product Testing, Stock Prep, Forming, and Drying/Finishing.

“Molded fiber continues to grow and emerge into both existing and expanding markets,” said Scott Rosencrance, Ph.D., Vice President of Commercial Development, Packaging and Hygiene Solutions Business Unit, for Kemira and Chair for the Paper and Board Division of TAPPI. “As a result of the growth trajectory of molded fiber, there is a clear need for the newly formed FMC mission and vision to support current and future technological needs for this market. This new committee is an impactful addition to the Paper and Board Division and certainly will deliver value to our membership as well as those working directly in, and adjacent to, the molded fiber market.”
